We know others may have already said it, but we also want to say…Welcome to GW!
We are excited to have you join our GW community in January. We know a part of your collegiate journey may be living on-campus, where almost 7,000 undergraduate students live every year. We are GW’s Campus Living & Residential Education team and we are here for you. Today we are writing to you about living in GW’s residence halls. Our message includes important details regarding requirements to live on campus, information about our residence halls, how to register for housing, and more.
On-Campus Living Requirements for Spring 2023
New undergraduate students are required to adhere to GW’s three-year residency requirement, which means first-, second-, and third-year students are required to live on campus in a GW residence hall.
For your awareness, we use your expected 4-year graduation year (not the number of academic credits earned to date) to determine your class year.
Your Class Year is: 2026
Our residency requirement allows for limited exemptions for first-year students who meet specific criteria. If you apply for and receive an exemption, you would be eligible to live off-campus for the entirety of your time as an undergraduate student at GW.
Our Spring 2023 Residential Communities
You may be wondering: where will I live for the spring semester?
At GW, most residence halls are designated as first-year or upper class (2nd-, 3rd-, or 4th-year undergraduate students) communities. As we identify available rooms in our halls for our incoming first-time students arriving this spring, you may be assigned to live in either a first-year or upperclass hall.
If assigned to a room in a first-year residence hall on either the Mount Vernon and Foggy Bottom campuses, you’ll live with students who are also in their first-year of college at GW.
If assigned to a room in an upperclass residence hall on the Foggy Bottom campus, we hope to pair you up in a room with at least one other new student who is also experiencing GW for their first time in the spring semester. You may have a suitemate or two who are in a different class year, and they can be great resources to help acclimate you to life at GW.
